Postgraduate Research Students Engagement Survey Report
USI got engaged with The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education’s Advisory Forum to conduct a survey on the engagement of postgraduate research (PGR) students in line with the recommendations from the European University Association (EUA) Report. This initiative is not only about following a set of guidelines but is also a commitment to USI stance for improving the engagement of Postgraduate students at Ireland’s higher education system at different levels. The pivotal focus of this survey is on crafting a cohesive vision for PGR student representation and their active participation in institutional governance. The ultimate goal is to refine and enhance the quality of education by leveraging the unique perspectives that PGR students offer.
Postgraduate Research Charter Development
USI efforts to define the roles, expectations, and rights of postgraduate research students more clearly in collaboration with stakeholders we are defining a Postgraduate Research Charter. This document is set to articulate the USI’s stipulations for PGR students, demonstrating a clear framework that encompasses the academic and support structures necessary for a thriving postgraduate research community. The charter represents a definitive step towards establishing transparent and standardized practices across all institutions, offering PGR students a solid grounding in their scholarly pursuits.
Why Research Matters Competition
To celebrate and encourage the exceptional work of PGR students, the “Why Research Matters Competition 2023” was successfully held. Doubling the previous year’s prize and tripling the engagement levels are indicative of the competition’s growing prestige. The event saw an enthusiastic participation of about 50 PGR students from different Higher Education Institutes throughout Ireland, reflecting the increasing interest and recognition of the critical role research plays in societal progression. The competition stands as a beacon of recognition for PGR students, showcasing the significance of their research and providing a platform for sharing their innovative contributions with a wider audience.
Postgraduate Working Group
The Postgraduate Working Group has maintained a commendable track record of organization meetings. To date, all scheduled meetings have been successfully conducted, with the proceedings and resolutions documented. The minutes of these meetings have been consistently uploaded in a timely fashion to the designated resource platforms. This practice
